Help Us Save Union Cemetery's Historic Holding Vault

The holding vault at Union Cemetery is a historical icon almost as old as the cemetery itself—a stop on every tour of the cemetery, a feature of the historical society’s logo, and a backdrop for theatrical performances that bring new visitors to the cemetery every year. It is a vital part of Union Cemetery’s story.

Today, the holding vault needs repair to maintain its structural integrity. Mortar and some of the oldest bricks on the vault’s facade have disintegrated and left visible gaps, allowing light and water into the vault and causing the facade to lean.

The UCHS board of directors has received a bid of $16,000 from Architectural Masonry Restoration to repair the holding vault while preserving as much of its original stonework as possible. Work will begin immediately to conclude ahead of fall events. We ask for your generosity in helping us fund these crucial repairs. Union Cemetery is maintained, preserved, and vibrant today thanks to the donations of those who value it. You can help ensure that the holding vault will be part of Union Cemetery’s story for many years to come.
